Olive oil has a good antioxidant activity due to the present of tocopherols and polyphenolic compounds. This antioxidant activity can prevent premature aging by suppressing ROS on the skin. Olive oil is delivered through liquid crystal emulsion preparations due to its ability to increase penetration to a deeper level of the epidermis, increase hydration of the stratum corneum, and good stability. In this study, optimization of 4 different liquid crystal emulsion formulas was carried out based on a literature review with Q1-Q3 journal published in the period of 2000-2022 with Google Scholar, PubMed and Science Direct search engines. According to microscopic analysis, the four formulas form liquid crystals proved by the presence of maltese cross structure. Furthermore, an evaluation was carried out to design the final formula with criteria: pH in the range 4 to 6, particle size below 3 ?m, zeta potential value above 30 mV or below -30 mV, constant viscosity during storage and possess thixotropic rheology. The final formulation for olive oil liquid crystal emulsion consisted of 5-10% olive oil, 4% alkyl polyglycoside, 2% stearyl alcohol, 4% caprylic capric triglyceride, 0.5-5% dimethicone, 5% glycerin and 0.15-0,4% DMDM Hydantoin. text |
