The cosmetic business has developed in Indonesia, including in D.I. Yogyakarta. The use of cosmetics is accompanied by negative impacts that may arise, including side effects. This study aims to identify the side effects due to the use of haircare, skincare, and make-up products and evaluate the effect of respondents' attitudes toward using cosmetics on the incidence of side effects. This study was cross-sectional, using surveys. The questionnaire was distributed online in February-April 2022 at D.I. Yogyakarta. The questionnaire consisted of demographic data, cosmetic use patterns, the incidence and reporting of side effects. Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, and Spearman-Rank were applied for statistical analysis methods. The questionnaire was filled out by 378 respondents with the majority respondents being female, aged 18-35 years, high school graduates/equivalent, students/college students, not yet working, and coming from Bantul Regency. The results showed the incidence of side effects in 123 people due to hair treatment (38%) with the most reactions being hair loss (42.3%), itching (28.3%), and changing hair pigmentation (8.9%); 152 people due to skincare (44.3%) with the most reactions were acne (26.4%), dry skin (20.7%) and redness (19.2%); 98 people due to make-up (36%) with the most reactions were acne (35.2%), dry skin (16.8%), and itching (16.8%). There was an effect of the attitude of respondents in using cosmetics on the incidence of side effects of skin care (p = 0.004 and r = 0.154) and hair care (p = 0.004; r = 0.154). It can be concluded that the most common side effects of cosmetic products are hair loss for hair care products and acne breakouts for skin care and make-up products. The attitude of the respondents only affects the hair and skin care side effects. text
