Description
Summary:Patimban Port is a new port located at northern Java Island, preciesly in Subang Regency, West Java Province, that is planned to assist the Tanjung Priok Port. Of course, within the construction of a port, it is necessary to know the characteristics of the sea water around the port. One of the characteristics of sea water is sea currents. By using the Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP), The direction and speed of sea currents at the measurement point can be determined based on the principle of the Doppler Effect. In this study, the data collection was carried out once in November 2021, where the ADCP was placed in one area on the seabed and then was left to collect data for approximately 23 hours. It was found that the current is mostly in a northeasterly direction and can even reach an average speed of as fast as 0.428 m/s at one time. In addition, the surface of the water contains a lot of material that can be carried by sea water. It can also be seen that the current profile on the surface is heavily influenced by the mouth of the Cipunagara River due to the adjacent measurement locations. However, close to the seabed, the currents tend to be different from the surface. The maximum average speed at this depth is only around 0.15-0.16 m/s. The close to seabed area is less affected by currents from the river so it is more influenced by tidal activity. The results of this study are expected to be used for further research that uses currents as a research material or is used for policy making in the implementation of the development of Patimban Port.
