Fossil fuels contribute 94% to the national energy mix, which consists of 47% petroleum-based, 21% natural gas, and 26% coal. The growth of high fossil energy consumption will cause environmental problems, especially high CO2 emissions can cause global warming. One of the priority activities in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the energy sector is to increase the share of the use of new and renewable energy in the national primary energy mix. Indonesia has abundant reserves of renewable energy sources and enormous potential to develop and use clean energy sources such as hydropower plants (PLTA) (75,000 MW), geothermal (29,164 MW), biomass (49,810 MW), marine (46 GW), solar (4.80 kWh m2/s), and wind energy (3 m/s to 6 m/s). The above potential can be used as a source of electrical energy in several areas such as coastal and rural areas are still facing an electricity crisis with electricity demand higher than supply or no electricity supply to these areas including Bawean Islands. Bawean Islands has a topographical condition that has many rivers flows so that it has the potential for hydropower as its electricity supplier. The concept of hydropower requires two parameters, namely water discharge and falling height (head) to produce energy. The discharge is calculated using the Soil Conservation Service - Curve Number (SCS-CN) method, which is an approach method for calculations that relates some of the physical conditions of the Watershed (DAS), namely land cover and soil type. The head is obtained from the processing of the slope. Bawean Islands have hydropower potential that varies every month. The maximum hydropower potential occurs in January (the peak of the rainy season period) which is dominated on the Micro Hydro scale of PLTMH Class A (the power produced is 5 to 100 kW), while the minimum potential occurs in August (the peak of the dry season period) which is dominated on the Pico Hidro scale (the power produced up to 5 kW). This shows that the Bawean Islands have the potential for small-scale hydropower, both Piko and Micro Hydro, which can later be used as a source of electricity to meet the needs of electrical energy in Bawean Islands. text
