Summary: | One of the methods used to prevent acid mine drainage is encapsulation. The encapsulation method is a method that places PAF (Potentially Acid Forming) rocks under NAF (Non Acid Forming) or acid consuming material in such a way as to minimize the meeting of sulfide minerals with air and water. In this study, it utilized fly ash from the PT Bukit Energi Servis Terpadu power plant in the Banko Barat mining area, Tanjung Enim as an alternative layering material to replace NAF. To determine the possibility of using fly ash as a layering material, physical characterization tests, and geochemical characteristics of fly ash and PAF materials were carried out, as well as column leaching tests with several layering simulation scenarios. The layering simulation scenario is carried out by varying the amount of fly ash as a layering material.
Based on the results of the physical characterisitic test of fly ash, it was found that fly ash is dominated by sand, and based on the test results of the geochemical characteristics of fly ash, it shows that fly ash can be used as a layering material in preventing the formation of acid mine drainage. Meanwhile, the results of the layering scenario column leaching test on a laboratory scale showed that fly ash from the PT Bukit Energi Servis Terpadu power plant could not be used as an impermeable layer or water retainer because the size of the fly ash grain dominated by sand was easy to seep water but there was an increase in the pH of the layering scenario column when compared to the PAF material control column. The highest increase in pH values occurred in the PAF:FA 1:2 layering column scenario. This shows that the difference in the thickness of fly ash has an influence on the pH value of the leachate, where the more fly ash is added, the higher the pH value. |
