Description
Summary:Abstract :

Corrosion is complicated problem that must be overcome immediately in various industries. In the development of corrosion inhibitor research, organic compounds were more often researched and developed because of their advantages compared to corrosion inhibitor of inorganic compound. The use of corrosion inhibitor of organic compound is the most effective method to overcome corrosion in the internal part of industrial equipment. Proline was one of the amino acids that had been proven having activity of corrosion inhibition to the surface of metal. This research aimed at increasing the efficiency of the corrosion inhibition with synthesis of proline derivative, that is prolin methyl ester as new corrosion inhibitor. Esterification was done with reacting prolin with methanol using SOCl2 as activator. Results of synthesis were purified with column chromatography and characterized with Infrared spectroscopy and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance to give proline methyl ester in yellowish liquid form. The inhibition efficieny of proline methyl ester was determined with Tafel method producing maximum corrosion inhibition 72.08 % in concentration 50 ppm. The decline in characteristics of the acidity of proline increased the inhibition efficiency.
