Breast cancer is a disease that ranks first in prevalence and is the main contributor of cancerrelated mortality in Indonesia and globally. Chemotherapy for breast cancer greatly affects patients’ quality of life. In addition, the cost is generally quite high, so it can be an obstacle for the patients in obtaining treatment. This study aims to measure the quality of life and out-of-pocket (OOP) cost of breast cancer patients who received chemotherapy in one of the hospitals that provides service to patients who use national health insurance system (BPJS Kesehatan) and analyze demographic characteristics and socioeconomic factors that affect the quality of life and OOP in that group of patients. This is a cross-sectional study in breast cancer patients at the Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah Cibabat Cimahi performed by distributing three parts of the questionnaire, namely the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire, demographic characteristics questionnaire, and OOP cost questionnaire. The data obtained will be analyzed descriptively and statistically using the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests. The results showed that the OOP expenditure affects the general health status. On the function scale, the level of quality of life was only influenced by age and number of family members, and on the scale of symptoms, the level of quality of life was influenced by age, level of education, marital status, status of the head of the family, number of family members, family dependents, and family income. The average cost of patient’s OOP per month was Rp.1.666.875,00. The largest component of OOP costs was the cost of meal. Statistically, there was no difference in total OOP between breast cancer patients from different characteristic groups (p > 0.05).
