Summary: | Piroxicam is an NSAID class drug that is used in arthritis therapy. Piroxicam belongs to Class II in the
Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS) because of its low aqueous solubility which makes
Piroxicam has a low dissolution rate and longer absorption time. This study aims to increase the
dissolution rate of piroxicam tablets through the liquisolid technique. The formula of liquisolid is
designed using PEG 600, Avicel PH 102, and Aerosil with their respective functions as solvent, carrier,
and coating material. Moreover, other excipients were added to support the quality of the formula
are lactose monohydrate, sodium starch glycolate (SSG), mg stearate, and talk with respective
functions as filling material, disintegrant, lubricant, and glidant. A formed mass is evaluated by its
flow properties by the flow rate, Haussner Ratio, and compressibility index. Whereas the tablet is
evaluated by the hardness, weight, friability, and drug content. Furthermore, a selected formula
then evaluated by its dissolution profile and dissolution efficiency (%ED0-60 mnt) and compared to the
conventional formula and available products in the market. The result of the study indicates that the
liquisolid technique can be used to produce good quality piroxicam tablets that meet the dissolution
requirement, with an (%ED0-60 mnt) value of 73,99%.
