The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the nephroprotective effect of the combination of turmeric rhizome extract and gedi leaf extract in an animal model of kidney failure induced by gentamicin and piroxicam. Turmeric rhizome extract and gedi leaf extract were extracted by maceration method using 96% ethanol as solvent. The yield of turmeric rhizome extract was 26.6%, while that of gedi leaf extract was 8.91%. The test animals were divided into 6 test groups and were induced with gentamicin 100 mg/kgBW and piroxicam 3.6 mg/kgBW in all groups except the negative group for 7 days and were given extract on day 9 to day 33 and still given gentamicin induction. 50 mg/kgBW and piroxicam 3.6 mg/kgBW. Blood collection was performed before induction (T0/ Baseline), day 8 (T induction), and day 34 (T endpoint) as well as urine collection on day 8 and day 34. The test parameters in this study were measurement of creatinine levels, urea, TNF-?, calculation of kidney index, and urinalysis. Based on the One Way ANOVA statistical test, endpoint creatinine levels, urea endpoint, TNF-, and kidney index all test groups had p <0.05 against positive (ill) controls which were significantly different and the 1:1 combination group had levels of lowest among the test groups. In urinalysis testing, all test groups were close to the results of the negative control group (healthy). The activity that had the best repair function on the kidneys and had a nephroprotective effect was the 1:1 combination group or the combination group of 100 mg/kgBW turmeric rhizome ethanol extract – 67.5 mg/kgBW gedi leaf ethanol extract. text |
