Description
Summary:One of the calendars used by the community on the island of Java is Pranata Mangsa. Etymologically pranata means arrangement, and mangsa means season. The season arrangement means the recording of the seasons throughout the year combined with the Gregorian Calendar so it can be used as a reference for agricultural and fishery activities by the community. Researches on Pranata Mangsa in agricultural activities are still more dominant than that in fishery activities. The results of a recent study prove that the use of Pranata Mangsa in fishery activities affects on increasing income of the fishermen who often use Pranata Mangsa. This final project research focuses on the elementary analysis of solar radiation data on fish catching by the fishermen on the southern coast of Java Island. The data used in this research consist of the duration of solar irradiation which refers to BMKG climate data and solar irradiance data provided by NASA. The analysis was carried out by comparing the data from this study and the references. The results of this study indicate that the duration of solar irradiation data can still be used as a reference to determine the mangsa but it couldn’t completely explain the pattern in the modified Pranata Mangsa while the solar irradiance data can’t be used as a reference.
