Summary:Sports nutrition is beneficial to improve energy levels and prevent injury in physical activity. Sports nutrition contains various compositions such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, and vitamins. Eggshell membrane (ESM) is known to be rich in protein and its hydrolysate form contains free amino acids and a mixture of peptides with antioxidant effects. ESM supplementation has been shown to have a beneficial effect in the treatment of arthritis and inflammation. However, to date, the effect of ESM on endurance performance has not been known. In this study, an oral was formulated gel dosage form containing palm sugar and fructose-maltodextrin was formulated as a carbohydrate source and ESM hydrolysate as a protein source. The oral preparation was tested for its effect in vivo on the endurance performance of male Swiss Webster mice using the forced swimming method. This study used 20 mice were divided into negative control group (KN), amino acid formula (FAA) group with BCAA as positive control, low-dose hydrolysate (HDR) group, high-dose hydrolysate (HTK) group, and caffeine-treated hydrolysate group (HDK). In the FAA, HDR, HDT, and HDK groups contained the same amount of palm sugar, fructose, and maltodextrin. The swimming duration of mice in the FAA, HDR, HDT, and HDK groups was significantly longer (p<0.05) compared to the KN group. While the duration of swimming in the FAA group was not different when compared to the HDR, HDT, and HDK groups (p>0.05). Oral preparations containing ESM hydrolysate have good stability at room temperature for 2 weeks.
