However, the presence of unwanted side effects of drugs, when used for a long time, has become the basis for developing alternative therapies to prevent and treat peptic ulcers, one of which is using natural ingredient-based drugs. Based on previous research, ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) and Javanese turmeric (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb.) have been shown to have an antiulcer activity that can be used to treat peptic ulcer disease. This study aimed to determine the antiulcer activity of a combination of ethanol extract of ginger rhizome and Javanese turmeric in male Wistar rats induced by ethanol. The study was conducted on 7 test groups, consisting of a negative control group and a positive control group (CMC-Na 0.5%); standard groups (Sucralfate 200 mg/kg BW); ginger rhizome ethanol extract (EERJT) 200 mg/kg BW alone; Javanese turmeric rhizome ethanol extract (EERTT) 200 mg/kg BW alone; and a combination of ginger rhizome and Javanese turmeric rhizome ethanol extract (KEERJT) 100:100 and 200:200 mg/kg BW. All groups except the negative control group were given ethanol to induce ulcers. The gastric ulcer index (GUI) and the percentage of ulcer inhibition (%UI) of EERJT 200 mg/kg BW group were 11.00 and 42.86%. The GUI and UI for EERTT 200 mg/kg BW group were 3.75 and 80.52%. KEERJT 100:100 mg/kg BW group has GUI and %UI, 6.75 and 62.94%, respectively. KEERJT 200:200 mg/kg BW group has GUI and UI 3.00 and 84.42%.
