Summary: | For humans, maintaining healthy skin is necessary. One of indication of healthy skin is the pH value of
the skin in the range of 4.5-5.8. The pH value of the skin is influenced by exogenous and endogenous
factors, such as the amount of excessive sweating that causes the pH to increase or the content in skin
products that causes the skin's pH to decrease. If the pH of the skin is not in the normal range, the result
will be dry skin or easy skin infections. Moringa seed oil contains fatty acids that function as emollients
with a skin barrier function. The structure of the liquid crystal system provides protection, hydration, and
high stability. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of Moringa seed oil and the
evaluation results on the formulation of LC cream preparations containing Moringa seed oil. In Moringa
seed oil, density, fatty acid content, and antioxidant activity were determined using the DPPH method.
The manufacture of liquid crystal cream was carried out based on the optimization of the development
of the LC formula of Moringa leaf extract and seed oil in previous studies. The preparations that have
been made are evaluated by testing the pH of the preparations, dispersion, antioxidant activity, and
characterization of the preparations using a polarizing microscope. The preparation was tested on 10
volunteers using a skin-pH-meter. Moringa seed oil in the LC cream formulation has a density of 0.914 ±
0.03 g/mL, an IC50 value of 56 ± 4.39 g/mL, and a high oleic acid content of 70.2-75.43%. In LC
preparations, a pattern of maltese crosses is formed. The preparation had a pH value of 6.83 ± 0.21, a
spreadability of 7.22 ± 0.63 cm, and an IC50 value of 49.35 ± 5.83 g/mL. Preparations that were applied
to the skin of volunteers for 6 weeks caused the pH of the skin to increase to close to pH 5.
