As its monopoly rights will eventually be terminated, competition from new telecommunication operators will decide the most suitable network access. The goal of every operator is to provide the best services at the lowest cost possible to their customers. Therefore, intensive research into technologies has to be carried out to ensure a flexible and convenient migration.<br /><p align="justify"><br />This thesis will detail the decision making in choosing the appropriate network access technology, that is suitable for multimedia services in a district. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) decision making model was used to utilise expert knowledge in the field of network access to determine the parameters (criterion /sub criterion) and to judge the weighting of each criterion in a hierarchical structure model. Alternative network access technologies are implemented for PON, ADSL and HDSL to provide services for POTS, ISDN-BRA, ISDN-PRA, digital leased channel nx64 kbps and 2 Mbps.<br /><p align="justify"><br />Processing of objective and subjective data were based on the questionnaires using Criterium Decision Plus (GDP) software. It produced a priority weighting result of alternative technologies for ASDL amounting to 43.8%, HDSL 30% and PON 26.2%.<br /><p align="justify"><br />ADSL and HDSL technologies that use copper lines as their transmission media excel in PON technology because it is much more economical and efficient to use existing twisted pair telephone lines. They also provides faster developing time. text
