Summary: | The number of traffic accidents in Indonesia in 2020 reached 23,529 people or the equivalent of three people dying per hour. One of the causes of traffic accidents in Indonesia is due to human negligence while driving. Human negligence while driving can be prevented by raising the intention not to perform dangerous behavior while driving, and one of these dangerous behaviors is drowsy driving. Thus, this study aims to develop a model of drowsy driving intentions as an effort to prevent traffic accidents in Indonesia. The research method used is an online survey method using a questionnaire with 214 respondents. Convenience sampling method was used to select respondents who had driven a four-wheeled vehicle. The questionnaire consists of 45 questions, nine questions related to demographics and 36 questions developed from the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Health Belief Model (HBM), three constructs from the TPB, namely attitude (six items), subjective norm (four items), perceived behavior control (eight items), and five constructs from HBM, namely perceived barriers (three items), perceived benefits (two items), perceived severity (three items), cues to action (eight items), and intention to behavior (two items). This study uses a Likert scale of 1 to 5. Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM) method is used for data analyzing.
The results showed that 79% of respondents had driven drowsy, and 32% had almost an accident while drowsy in driving. The reasons of drowsy driving are the desire to arrive at their destination quickly, the lack of availability of proper resting areas, unawareness of drowsiness and unfit body condition. The results of the study showed attitudes, perceived behavior control, and perceived barriers with values of R2 = 0.559, Q2 = 0.376, and SRMR = 0.076 can be said to be able to predict drowsy driving intentions quite well.
