OCEANOGRAPHY PARAMETERS CONDITION AND THE EFFECT ON CHANGES IN THE KARAWANG REGENCY COASTLINE

The coastal zone is the interface between the land and sea so that it is influenced by changes on land and sea. The purpose of this study was to examine oceanographic parameters and their effect on shoreline changes in Karawang Regency in 2014 – 2019 using Landsat 8 OLI imagery. Modified Normalized...

The purpose of this study was to examine oceanographic parameters and their effect on shoreline changes in Karawang Regency in 2014 – 2019 using Landsat 8 OLI imagery. Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI) method used to emphasize boundaries between land and water. Oceanographic characteristics in the water of Karawang Regency are strongly influenced by monsoon winds. The dominance of the direction of the propagation of waves to the west with a percentage of 54,15% with a significant wave height 0,4 – 1,6 m, while percentage of the direction of current propagation is 44,79% which leads to the west with a current velocity of 0,08 – 0,40 m/s. Shoreline changes were analyzed by Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) using the statistical methods of Net Shoreline Movement (NSM) and End Point Rate (EPR) to identify abrasion and accretion. Changes in the coastline in Karawang Regency for 5 years show a tendency to experience accretion. The rate of change of coastline in Karawang Regency is dominantly accreted with an average accretion rate of 22,85 m/year and an average abrasion rate of 14,71 m/year. Maximum abrasion occurs in Cibuaya District, while maximum accretion occurs in Tempuran District. The direction of sediment transport on the coast of Karawang Regency is towards the west with an average rate of 2,56 kg/s. text
