This area continues to experience a decline in environmental quality, marked by the density of the riverside environment, seen from the slums and disposal of household waste that still leads to the river. The disorientation of socio-cultural values to the meaning of rivers, especially in the Martapura River watershed which intersects with the Sungai Baru area and the Pekapuran river flow in the Sungai Baru area has an impact on physical decline and the quality of the surrounding rivers. Uncontrolled areas also cause regional productivity to decline, marked by a decline in the economic value of the region. The decline in economic, socio-cultural and ecological values of the area is a problem that needs more attention. This study was conducted with the aim of formulating the idea of designing the New River Area by applying the criteria of Sustainable Urban Riverfront. The design method used is the fragmental method, while the design technique used is optimization. The fragmental method begins with collecting issues related to design to simulation design. Then proceed with optimization design techniques by applying the criteria of ecology, adaptability, diversity, accessibility, recreation, landscape efficiency, density, identity, public and community, and preservation. These criteria are integrated with the three pillars of sustainability, namely ecology, economy and society. The general design area has an area of 7.9 Ha, which was developed into three main segments, namely as a mixture of segments which include residential, retail and community, ecological conservation segment and tourism segment. The third segment is integrated with the Sustainable Urban Riverfront development scheme. The application of the Sustainable Urban Riverfront approach to revive river culture, by designing a sustainable riverside area as one of the tourist attractions of Banjarmasin City. text
