Discovery of biogenic gas found in offshore Madura in the Madura Straight even in Northern Madura. Characteristic of biogenic gas source, which is different with usual hydrocarbon development process will give a big new exploration opportunity in another area of Indonesia. Another reason of it, because the biogenic gas develop in shallow burial deposit (less than 1000m). So in the near future it could be explore in the top priority. The research area geologically is part of the back-arc basin system with tectonostratigrafically started from rifting phase which is deposited Palaeogene sediments (Ngimbang Formation, Kujung III,II Formation), followed by sagging phase which is deposited Neogene sediments Kujung I Formation, Tuban Formation, OK Formation), ended by compression tectonic phase which is produce several litostratigraphy with different naming as Wonocolo Formation., Cepu Formation, Tawun Formation, Ngrayong Formation, Mundu Formation, Paciran Formation, and Lidah Formation). Geological Structure in this area relatively NE-SW, E-W (associated with left strike slip fault from RMKS major fault) Result of the research showing a different of sedimentation deposit history, although locally will be affected to the gas type which is trapped. This issue founded on the OGX structure as the producer of mixed gas (biogenic and thermogenic gas). In the MLX structure only produce a biogenic gas. Biogenic gas is predicted mainly from Plio-plistosen formation age (Equivalent of Cepu and Mundu Formation), and the thermogenic hydrocarbon source come from older formation (Equivalent to Kujung Formation.) Application of biogenic gas modelling will be easier if the paleo-geographic, sedimentation system and petroleum system of the area will be explore combined with the general condition of biogenic gas generation. text |
