The integration of biostratigraphic analysis results and well log data (lithology and GR) furthermore is used in sequence stratigraphic analysis. The sediments of Ngimbang Formation in the study area is placed between nannofossil zone Sphenolithus predistentus-Helicosphaera intermedia (NP17-NP19a) and zone Sphenolithus ciperoensis-Sphenolithus distentus (NP24), whereas based on planktonic foraminiferal zone is placed between zona Globigerina ampliapertura-Globorotalia cerroazulensis and ?older (P17 and ?older) to zone Globorotalia opima opima (P21). It means that the age of Ngimbang formation is the upper part of Middle Eocene? to Late Oligocene. Nine (9) nannofossil zonal biomarkers can be identified in this study. Four (4) biomarkers are indicators of Martini zonation (1971), include the first occurrence of Sphenolithus pseudoradians, the last occurrence of Reticulofenestra umbilica, the first occurrence of Sphenolithus ciperoensis and the last occurrence of Sphenolithus distentus. The others five are correlative substitute or additional biomarkers to refine zonal scheme resolution, include the first occurrence of Helicosphaera intermedia, the last occurrence of Cribrocentrum reticulatum, the last occurrence of Discoaster barbadiensis, the last occurrence of Ericsonia formosa and the last occurrence of Sphenolithus ciperoensis. In the planctonic foraminiferal zonation, the only biomarker of Blow zonation (1969) is applicable in this study is the first occurrence of Globigerina sellii. The others six are correlative substitute, include the first occurrence of Globigerina ampliapertura, the last occurrence of Turborotalia cerroazulensis, the last occurrence of globigerina tapuriensis, the first occurrence of Globorotalia opima opima, the last occurrence of Globorotalia opima opima and the last occurrence of Globigerina ciperoensis angulisuturalis. The sediments of Ngimbang Formation was deposited in supralittoral to upper-middle bathyal environment. Sequence stratigraphic analysis on the sedimentary interval can identify 4 MFS (maximum flooding surfaces) and 5 SB (sequence boundaries) of 5 sequence units. MFS are characterized by peak of microfossil abundances and/or diversities, and the deepest benthonic foraminiferal assemblages in one sequence unit. SB is identified by the data include: contact between the basement with sediments of Ngimbang Formation (SB-1), biostratigraphic discontinuity (SB-2), and the data integration of abrupt shallowing upward depositional environment change, presence of reworked fossils, mix of displaced deeper benthonic foraminiferal species to insitu shallower microfosssil assemblages, and decline of insitu microfossil abundance and diversity (SB-3, SB-4 and SB-5). Generally, sequences consist of TST dan HST. LST is only assumed present in sequence-4 of Well “B” section. text |
