Description
Summary:Abstract:

Iron ore crisis for supplying iron and steel industry occurs in Indonesia. On the other

hand, raw materials for these industries depend on foreign supply. Lateritic ore is

abundance in Indonesia. But, this material has been used as nickel source. It is known

that lateritic ore has a complex characteristic due to the presence of clay minerals and

crystal water.

This research is conducted to enhance iron content from lateritic iron ore taken from

Bukit Besi, Kalimantan, via the reduction of impurities minerals, i.e. Al2O3 and SiO2. The

method used is reverse cationic flotation by using amine collector. Optimum flotation

process condition determination is conducted through variation on: pH pulp, feed fraction

size, solid percentage, and collector dosage.

The result shows that Fe content achieved is 10,47%, while SiO2 and Al2O3 removal

achieved is 5,57% and 8,57%.
