Description
Summary:Recently, we know the government is developing new economic zones, one of them is Kendal Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Development of this area can make land-use changes in the future, so environmental geology analysis is needed to analyze the existence of resources and geological hazards around the area to be built. Therefore, this study aims to determine the suitability zone for the development of Kendal SEZ area and provide an overview of Kendal SEZ spatial planning map. Analysis in this study uses maps (secondary data) from the latest research by Center for Groundwater Resource and Environmental Geology, Centre for Vulcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation, Geospatial Information Agency, and Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The data is then used in the preparation of Fuzzy-Analytical Hierarchy Process hierarchy which is divided into 3 criteria and 11 sub-criteria. There is also an exclusion component such as river boundary, coastal boundary, railroads boundary, and the presence of fault zones. Each component is then overlaid one to the other to produce a map of suitability zone which will be analyzed further to produce a map of spatial planning recommendations. The analysis results are six zones of suitability, namely non-suitable zone, poorly-suitable zone, fairly-suitable zone, slightly-suitable, suitable zone, and the exclusion zone. The suitability zone is adjusted to the spatial planning map of Kendal Regency resulting six recommended spatial planning areas, namely industrial areas which have medium to high geological resources with low geological hazards, residential and agricultural areas which have high geological resources and low geological hazards, trade and service areas which have quite high geological resources and low geological hazards, fishery areas which have geological resources and medium geological hazards, production forest areas which have limited geological resources and quite high geological hazards, and green open spaces located at exclusion component. Overall, this area deserves to be used as a special economic zone with the center of the area located around the northern coast because of its strategic location for seaports and has a fairly-suitable zone - slightly-suitable zone with attention for the potential of tsunamis and liquefaction.
