Description
Summary:Ultrafine bubble technology is a technology used in the medical and fisheries fields. The benefits of this technology are not limited to these fields, as UFB technology can be applied in the forestry sector. The ability of UFB in breaking the dormancy of sandalwood seeds and invigorating sengon seeds as example are scientifically proven. The compatibility between this technology with seed germination and early growth of Surian seedlings will be tested during this study. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of immersion in UFB on Surian (Toona sinensis Roem.) seeds germination and to evaluate the effect of soaking Surian seeds in UFB water on growth during early seedling. The testing is divided into two stages, namely testing during the seed period and testing during the seedling period. During the seed period, the steps carried out were preparation of UFB water, immersion of seeds in UFB water, and germination of Surian seeds using paper-top test (UDK). The stages carried out during the seedling period are weaning and observation in the nursery. The research design used for germination is completely randomized design with 3 treatments, namely without immersion in UFB as a control, immersion in UFB for 6 hours, and immersion for 18 hours. Every treatment is repeated 4 times. The research design used in the initial growth of seedlings was a completely randomized design with 3 treatments, namely without immersion as a control, immersion in UFB for 6 hours, and immersion for 18 hours. The three treatments were repeated 5 times. Parameters tested were germination percentage, germination rate, germination value, height and diameter growth of the seedlings, and percentage of seedling growth. The datas were processed using the 21st version of minitab. Results showed that the highest percentage of germination was shown in unsoaked seeds with a value of 91.5%, the highest germination value was shown in seeds soaked for 18 hours with a value of 12.78%. The highest growth of seedling height was indicated by immersion for 6 hours with a value of 0.3 cm/week, and growth of stem diameter of Surian seedlings peaked with the value of 0.02 mm/week at seed immersion for 6 hours and seed without immersion. However, it was concluded that the immersion of Surian seeds in UFB water for 6 and 18 hours did not significantly affect the germination of Surian and the initial growth of Surian seedlings.
