The iron sand itself has iron ore reserves, the second-highest location in Indonesia. Nonetheless, research and exploration related to iron sand in Indonesia are relatively minimal. One of the locations of iron sand deposits that hold this potential is in the location of this research, namely in Lunyuk District, Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province. This study aims to find out and determine the origin of the material (provenance), tectonic setting, degree of weathering, and the comparison of characteristics between iron sand deposit blocks. The focus of the research is on the Sepang Block, Emang Block, and the Kuang Dingin Block. The data used in this study include sieve data, grain minerals, mineragraphy, and geochemistry. The method used in this research is sieve analysis, mineral grain analysis, mineragraphic analysis, and geochemical data analysis which includes analysis of provenance, tectonic setting, and degree of weathering and maturity. The results of this study indicate that the iron sand deposit at the research site originates from a mafic - intermediate igneous provenance which is thought to originate from an Intrusion Rock Unit with a low – intermediate degree of weathering and a low degree of maturity and is formed in the island arc dominated tectonic setting. The higher CIA, CIW, PIA, and ICV values in the Sepang Block compared to the Emang Block and Kuang Dingin Block indicate that the origin rock from the Sepang Block experienced a relatively higher degree of chemical weathering and degree of maturity in the sediment source area. This is thought to be an indication of the influence of altered rocks in the Sepang Block. text |
