INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/69749 South Sumatra is an unique and interesting area in terms of geology and tourism. The uniqueness geological aspects of South Sumatra causing this area to have a potential to becoming geotourism destination. However, the aspect of geotourism from South Sumatra has not been given enough attention, so this research aims to study the geological potential of South Sumatra Area to become a geotourism destination. This research was conducted in Manahara Village, Banding Agung District, South Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, South Sumatra. This study provides several recommendations for geotourism objects and thematic pathways for geotourism, especially in the Manahara Village and Surroundings Area. The research method used in this study is geological mapping and geotourism potential analysis in Manahara Village and Surroundings Area. Geological mapping consists of geomorphological observations, geological structure analysis, and observation and analysis of the distribution of lithology in the study area. Geotourism potential analysis method consists of geodiversity analysis, "geotourism box" analysis, and quantitative assessment in the Manahara Village area by conducting direct observation in the field and interviewing local residents. Geosite and thematic path recommendations are obtained from the results of further analysis from geological mapping. The results of the geological mapping show that the study area can be divided into six geomorphological units, namely Manahara Lava-Pyroclastic Flow Ridge Unit, Talang Jawa Pyroclastic Flow Highland Unit, Lelaya Ulu Pyroclastic Flow Hills Unit, Talang Jawa Pyroclastic Flow Hills Unit, Lelaya Ulu – Talang Jawa Lahar Flow Hills Unit, and Way Sumatra Pyroclastic Flow Hills Unit. The lithology unit in the study area is divided into five, namely Pyroclastic Breccia Unit 1, Pyroclastic Breccia Unit 2, Tuff Unit 1, Tuff Unit 2, and Lahar Breccia Unit. The geological structure that developed in the study area is the Manaamira Sinistral Normal Fault and Talang Jawa Normal Fault. Based on an analysis of geotourism potential, Manahara Village is considered to have sufficient criteria to become a geotourism area. Moreover, the results of the geological mapping provide several geosite recommendations including Ranau Lake, Bakas Tuha Waterfall, Manaamira Waterfall, Manahara Hot Spring, and Talang Jawa Hill. The author hopes that this research can increase knowledge about the geological conditions on South Sumatra. Moreover, this research is expected to be able to develop the economy of Manahara Village by providing information related to the potential of geotourism that can be developed in the area. text
