Description
Summary:Cikapundung Sub-watershed is located in Bandung City, Bandung District, and West Bandung District. This area is susceptible to soil erosion because of frequent heavy rainfalls and steep terrains. Soil erosion can cause loss of soil structure, crops production decreases, and disrupt people’s daily activities. It can also lead to landslides which can harm people and nearby buildings. Therefore, mapping of soil erosion in this Sub-watershed is needed. This study uses quantitative calculation with remote sensing and GIS (Geographic Information System) methods. The analysis was done by calculating every factor that is causing soil erosion using SES (Soil Erosion Status). The factors are lithology, geomorphology, slope, drainage, soil texture, lineament density, and land cover. SES method is a method to calculate soil erosion potential by using the mean of the erosion factors’ values. Soil erosion potential is divided into 5 categories: Category I with a soil loss rate of <15 ton/ha/year, category II with a soil loss rate 15-60 ton/ha/year, category III with a soil loss rate 61-180 ton/ha/year, category IV with a soil loss rate of 181-400 ton/ha/year, and category V which has a soil loss rate >400 ton/ha/year. The results are Cikapundung Sub-Watershed has a soil erosion capability range from category I to V. Category I covers 47% of total area. Then, categories II and III each encompass 11% of the area. Lastly, category IV and V covers 19% and 12% area respectively. Areas with high erosion potential are mostly in the north of the Sub-Watershed i.e scarp of Lembang Fault, south of Mt. Tangkuban Perahu, and around Lembang City.
