THE ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN VOLCANOSTRATIGRAPHY AND MORPHOGENESIS USING REMOTE SENSING METHODS IN THE SINGKUT CALDERA AREA, NORTH SUMATERA
The Singkut Caldera Area, North Sumatra is a location that is often used as an object of geothermal research. However, research related to volcanostratigraphic aspects is considered to be quite limited in this area. The only published research dealing with volcanostratigraphic aspects in the Singkut...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/69754 The Singkut Caldera Area, North Sumatra is a location that is often used as an object of geothermal research. However, research related to volcanostratigraphic aspects is considered to be quite limited in this area. The only published research dealing with volcanostratigraphic aspects in the Singkut Caldera Area was conducted by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation in 2009. This study aims to evaluate in detail the geological setting of the Singkut Caldera Area which includes geomorphology, volcanostratigraphy, and geological structures. In addition, this study was also carried out to detect morphogenesis and determine the relationship between volcanostratigraphy and morphogenesis as a development of previous research which only focused on geological settings. This study was conducted using remote sensing method through DEMNAS imagery and Landsat 8 OLI imagery which were processed through pre-processing, enhancement and transformation stages, as well as classification and extraction. The results of this remote sensing were further verified with literature data consisting of a Geological Map of the Sibayak Volcano and a Geological Map of the Medan Sheet published by the Geological Agency of the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. Based on the results of this study, the Singkut Caldera Area is divided into twenty geomorphological units and 25 lithological units. Geological structures detected in this area consist of the Bertang Fault, NE-SW Normal Fault, normal faults in Singkut Caldera, normal faults at the center of the intracaldera cone eruption, and thirteen interpretive faults. Morphogenesis in the Singkut Caldera Area is controlled by five original formations, regional geological structure influences, local geological structure influences, and anthropogenic influences. The analysis of the relationship between volcanostratigraphy and morphogenesis in the Singkut Caldera Area resulted in three types of morphogenesis that are directly related to the formation of lithological units, six periods of morphogenesis, and 24 morphochronological sequences. text |
