Description
Summary:Power contactor is a device that is widely used in power industry to conduct high-voltage electricity. The high voltage and current flowing in the power contactor make it require high technical specifications both in terms of materials and manufacturing processes. Inside the power contactor there is a switch component which is an imported component. This component hasn’t been widely produced in Indonesia. This research was conducted to determine the materials and manufacturing processes of switch components on medium-duty single pole power contactor Identification was done through visual observation, metallography to observe the microstructure, and material characterization using Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS). Microstructure observations can be the basis to estimate what processes have been made to these components. The switch component consists of six materials that is Ag-SnO2 tip, copper plate, AgCuZnSn and AgCuZnSn as brazing materials, Ag intermediate layer between tip and brazing material, and Ag coating on the entire. The manufacturing processes of switch components is done by connecting a Ag-SnO2 tip to a copper plate using brazing method, and then coated with silver on the surface using electroplating method.
