Summary: | The characteristics of the estuary area are strongly influenced by the dynamics and interaction between the marine and river environments, especially high salinity from the sea and low salinity from the river will meet and affect conditions in the estuary area. The purpose of this study is to examine the dynamics of zoning waters in Muaragembong, Bekasi Regency, West Java based on surface salinity in estuarine waters using Landsat 8 satellite imagery. Surface salinity values were obtained from Landsat 8 satellite imagery data which were processed using the salinity estimation algorithm Wouthuyzen et al. (2008). Salinity estimation results are classified according to the Venice System (1958). Water zoning based on sea surface salinity was assessed for each season, namely the rainy season, the transitional season I, the dry season, and the transitional season II. In the rainy season Mexo-polyhaline, Mexo-mexohaline, and Mexo-oligohaline zones are formed, in the first transition season Mexo-polyhaline, Mexo-mexohaline, Mexo-oligohaline, limnetic zones are formed, in the dry season Mexo-polyhaline zones are formed, and Mexo-mexohaline, and in the second transitional season, Mexo-polyhaline, Mexo-mexohaline, and Mexo-oligohaline zones were formed. The results of the processing showed that transitional season I from March to May had the most salinity zones compared to other seasons. The
difference in zoning formed is influenced by tides, sea surface currents, and river discharge. Tides affect the salinity value, when the tide conditions are higher and when the tide conditions are lower, the salinity will be lower. Sea surface currents affect the distribution of salinity
values. Next, river discharge is the main supplier of freshwater mass which reduces the salinity value when mixing with seawater. |
