The use of motorized vehicles has increased in the last ten years.
Technology is needed that can be used to reduce fuel consumption by using
forced induction components in internal combustion engines. One component of
forced induction that is often used is the turbocharger. The component of the
turbocharger that plays a direct role in the use of fuel is the centrifugal
compressor. It is necessary to determine the geometric values of the impeller,
diffuser, and volute that will be used to analyze the performance of the centrifugal
compressor model.
Determination of the theoretical value of geometry and simulation using the
basic operating parameters of a centrifugal compressor on a turbocharger of 0.1
kg/s for the mass flow rate of the fluid with conditions at the compressor inlet set
at 101,325 Pa and 298 K for the total inlet pressure and the total inlet temperature.
For the condition at the compressor outlet, it is set at 151,998 Pa for the static
pressure value. The working fluid used is air with ideal gas properties. Simulation
and theoretical results produce various performance parameters such as efficiency
values, pressure ratio values, temperature ratios, and compressor power. In the
simulation, the efficiency is 85.64%, the temperature ratio is 1.2098, the pressure
ratio is 1.426, and the power is 6.279 kW. The performance of the centrifugal
compressor is also carried out through an off-design analysis. Changes in the
performance of the centrifugal compressor were obtained with variations in the
mass flow rate of the fluid used for the four parameters set.
