Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport has an enormus role to the tourism of East Sumba, through the form of movement of people, goods, and services, the airport has an impact to the local development. In terms of economic benefits, airport facilities has an effect on the rate of economic growth, especially for regions that relied on the tourism industry as the largest contribution to the regional revenue. Due to the important implications and essential linkages between airport infrastructure and the tourism industries, which good transportation access will increase visits, and attractive tourist attractions will increase travels. However, behind the economic benefits obtained, there are negative impacts generated by the airport design which does not pay attention to environmental aspects in its development. There is a potential for environmental damage due to unsustainable designs, for instance; increasing carbon emissions, environmental pollution due to bad waste management, and ineffective and inefficient levels of energy consumption. This planning is a response to optimizing the development of East Sumba which focuses on eco-airport based of interior design element which are environmentally friendly and sustainable as an effort to support environmental preservation in the area.
