CC solution was made based on the development of DT and WH solution using H2SO4, H3PO4, water and glycerol. In the “electropolishing region”, at 65oC, %?Ra of CC solution is higher than NE1 and CC solution in the “gas evolution region” which is 53% vs 50% and 21%. The higher %?Ra is better. This research should be further investigated in the future. text |

description |
Stainless steel such as AISI 316L is commonly used in biomedical and
pharmaceutical industries, food processing industries, and etc. A finer stainless
steel will have a higher corrosion resistance than a rougher surface. The
mechanical polishing cannot reach the area with a complicated shape like
electropolishing able to do.
Electropolishing has a strong relation with the I-V curve. From literature
I-V curve has a specific characteristic that is strongly depend on the solution type
and composition. The I-V curve has several regions i.e., “etching region”,
“passivating region”, “electropolishing region” and “gas evolution region”. The
process that is carried out on those regions has a certain surface roughness
quality or Ra that will become the main attention by industries on the process
effectivity and efficiency to achieve the most economical cost in order to
produce the highest surface roughness reduction %?Ra.
In this research, I-V curve on CC, DT and NE1 solution has been
obtained. Whereas the I-V curve of WH solution and the composition of DT and
NE1 solutions are from literature. CC solution was made based on the
development of DT and WH solution using H2SO4, H3PO4, water and glycerol.
In the “electropolishing region”, at 65oC, %?Ra of CC solution is higher than
NE1 and CC solution in the “gas evolution region” which is 53% vs 50% and
21%. The higher %?Ra is better. This research should be further investigated in
the future. |
