One type of accidents that has a fatal impact is an underrunning accident, which is a phenomenon when a passenger car is run over on the front, back, or side of a truck, in an accident. This type of accident often occurs because there is no underrunning protection on heavy vehicles which causes small vehicles to easily enter the bottom of heavy vehicles when an accident occurs. It is very important to have regulations governing this underrunning protection. At the international level, the existence of this system in large vehicles, especially trucks, has been regulated in the United Nation Economic Commission of Europe Regulation No. 93 concerning Front Underrun Protection Devices (FUPD), this system or device must be designed in such a way as to minimize the impact of this type of underrunning accident. This study will review the design and available data related to FUPD according to the UNECE R93 standard. The research was conducted by modeling and simulating quasistatic tests using numerical methods with software, so that several important parameters that affect accident fatality were obtained from the available FUPD designs. text |

The increase in population every year as well as the increasing mobility of the
population causes an increase in the need for modes of transportation that can load more
passengers or goods. Some of these needs are answered by mass transportation modes such
as buses and trucks for transporting goods. This increase in number will also increase the
risk of accidents occurring. One type of accidents that has a fatal impact is an underrunning
accident, which is a phenomenon when a passenger car is run over on the front, back, or side
of a truck, in an accident. This type of accident often occurs because there is no underrunning
protection on heavy vehicles which causes small vehicles to easily enter the bottom of heavy
vehicles when an accident occurs.
It is very important to have regulations governing this underrunning protection. At
the international level, the existence of this system in large vehicles, especially trucks, has
been regulated in the United Nation Economic Commission of Europe Regulation No. 93
concerning Front Underrun Protection Devices (FUPD), this system or device must be
designed in such a way as to minimize the impact of this type of underrunning accident.
This study will review the design and available data related to FUPD according to
the UNECE R93 standard. The research was conducted by modeling and simulating quasistatic
tests using numerical methods with software, so that several important parameters that
affect accident fatality were obtained from the available FUPD designs. |
