Description
Summary:The Bandung Basin is one of the areas that often experiences flooding due to extreme rains. On the other hand, the characteristics of extreme rain are not completely known both spatially and temporally. Then, the daily scale data cannot reflect the intensity and frequency of rainfall in more detail, so a sub-daily (hourly) analysis is needed to describe extreme rainfall events in more detail. The existence of BBWS Citarum observational data with 1 hour temporal resolution can meet these criteria. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the subdaily characteristics of extreme rainfall in the Bandung Basin. This study uses the threshold of extreme rainfall by choosing the 95th percentile of all historical hourly rainfall. Then the extreme rainfall data obtained is processed by adopting the diurnal variability DP (Diurnal Percentage) method and the diurnal variation (Dt) from the average extreme rainfall (EPA) and the average extreme rainfall frequency (EPF) to determine rainfall patterns, extreme spatially and temporally. In addition, the quality control (QC) methods are carried out on observational data to ensure the validity of the data before being analyzed. The results of this study indicate that in the Bandung Basin, EPF generally has a semi-annual pattern, with peaks in the November-December and February-April periods. Meanwhile, spatially, the number of EPF events in the south was 48.18% (maximum at Kertasari Station), north was 44.52% (maximum at Cidurian Station) and east was 7.3% (maximum at Sapan Station). Based on the Dt, the peak of EPA occurs in the afternoon at 15.00 LC, except for the eastern region, which occurs at 16.00 LC. The duration of extreme rainfall in the Bandung basin is generally short, less than three hours (98.72%) but has the potential to occur more than or equal to three hours (1.28%), especially at Ancol Mekar, Dayeuhkolot and Kertasari Stations.
