STRESS ANALYSIS FOR HOLLOW AXLE FOR HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY WHEELSET BASED ON EN13103 AND EN13104 STANDARDS
The axle is a component of the train wheel that connects the right and left wheels rigidly. When the train is operating, the axle receives the load from the weight of the train and other loads such as the load from the interaction force between the wheels and the rail. In addition, there is also a l...

Along with the increase in train speed, there is an increase in dynamic loads and stability problems arise when the train is moving on a straight railroad. Several studies have shown that reducing axle mass can increase stability and reduce the magnitude of the interaction force between the wheels and the rails. One strategy that can be done is to use a hollow axle, which is an axle with a hole in the middle along the axle axis. The purpose of this study was to obtain the optimal axle dimensions for use on high-speed trains. There are several standards that can be used in designing railroad axles. The standards that will be used in this study are EN13103 and EN13104. It was found that the axle can be hollowed out to a certain diameter depending on the material. text |
