Summary: | Safety Assessment is an important process as part of aircraft development activities. This assessment is required to assure aircraft safety during aircraft operation. This research is an evaluation of safety assessment of WiSE-8 craft base on SAE ARP 4761. The safety assessment is applied on the craft functions and system design which may result in severe-failure condition by using Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA) and Preliminary System Safety Assessment (PSSA). FHA identifies functions and failure conditions associated with these functions and classifies the effect of each failure condition. PSSA determines the critical systems by using Fault Tree Analysis. This process establishes also the safety requirements for the critical systems. Evaluation of the implementation of safety assessment procedure of SAE ARP4671 on WiSE-8 craft indicates that SAE ARP4761 is not an explicite procedure where it does not provide a clear guideline in identifying important craft functions. This may lead to mistakes in defining the critical craft functions. |
