The prosthesis finger can be moved by moving the non-amputated arm. This makes both sides of the body must work so user can feel more tired and discomfort. The discomfort felt by the user can also be caused by the shape and limited movement function of this product. In addition, there is a possibility that this product is not fit with the characteristics of each user so that it can make some users dissatisfied. Because of that, it is important to evaluate and improve the product to increase user comfort and satisfaction. The evaluation process in this research used the design thinking method with two participants who had left side transradial amputation. Data for the evaluation process were obtained through observations and interviews. The observations were made by asking participants to perform five tasks adapted from the Southampton Hand Assessment Procedure (SHAP). During the observation, the physical workload on the shoulder muscles were measured by using electromyography (EMG) sensor and the level of discomfort in several parts of the participant’s body were measured with the Borg CR10’s scale. Meanwhile, interviews were conducted by asking questions according to the empathy map format to map the participant’s profiles. From the profile, the participant’s needs in general can be known so that all other improvements needed in the product can be known. The evaluation results showed that there were tasks gave high physical workload values and Borg CR10’s scale values, such as the task of pouring water from a drink box. Based on these problems and the results of the user profile mapping, the needs of participants related to the use of prostheses can be determined and alternative solutions can be designed. There were sixteen alternatives selected to be designed into prototypes in the form of three-dimensional computer-aided design (3D CAD) models. The prototype received a good response from the participants. text |
