Specifically, Business School have a role in educating and developing responsible future leaders who are useful for the country (Drew, 2011; Caporarello and Manzoni, 2019). Business School need to improve their competitiveness by becoming learning organization.
This study is aimed to explore and provide empirical evidence whether Indonesian Business School have characteristics of learning organization 4.0, and to explore and provide qualitative finding about learning organization 4.0 implementation in the context of Tri Dharma activities at Indonesian Business School.
The design of this study is aimed to answer the three research questions. Author employs qualitative method with multiple case study research. The four reputable Indonesian Business School based on QS World University Ranking 2022 by Subject: Business and Management has chosen to represent, they are; School of Business and Management ITB, Faculty of Economic and Business UGM, Faculty of Economic and Business Universitas Brawijaya, and BINUS School of Business. After obtaining permission from 13 respective informants from the four Indonesian Business School, author perform in depth interview. In response informant's answer, then the author conducts an analysis using First-cycle Coding and Second- cycle Coding. According to the needs of research question, author uses Emotion Coding, Value Coding, and Process Coding for First Cycle Coding, then analyzes it into Second-cycle Coding to have a theme. Author grouping Second Cycle Coding into learning processes which are carried out inside and which are include outside the organization, then gets the five discipline and model of learning organization 4.0. The five disciplines of learning organization 4.0 are; Learning Culture, Shared Vision, Self Growth, Growing Together, and Ecosystem Collaboration. The author also analyzes the differences and similarities between the learning organization model 4.0 (2022) and the learning organization model from Senge (1990) and Daly & Overton (2017).
Using matrix coding queries with NVIVO software to answer research questions, author found the results Indonesian Business School have the five disciplines of learning organization 4.0. However, there is less implementation of internal learning than learning both internally and externally. In the context of Tri Dharma activities, the implementation of the five-learning organization 4.0 is at least found in community service activities. Author gets insight and concern from these findings, if the five-learning organization 4.0 are not implemented in a balanced manner then the Indonesian Business School will be less sustainable in facing a volatile environment. Author provides suggestions for the Indonesian Business School to be able to implement internal and external learning disciplines in a balanced, full of commitment and consistently so that the Indonesian Business School not only sustain and thrive but also have a big impact on society and the nation.
This study provides a theoretical contribution to the enrichment of learning organization theory especially facing the 4.0 era in the context of the Business School. Contribution to practical implication if the five-learning organization 4.0 are implemented balance, it can produce competent graduates and have an impact for SMEs to become more independence. This study also contributes for pedagogical implication by strengthening in the teaching aspect and increase collaboration activities in context of teaching, research, and community service. Limitation of this study, due to the pandemic, for primary data collection this study using virtual in-depth interviews. Lastly, for future research recommendation, propositions gained from this study should follow up with quantitative approach and involving larger number of Indonesian Business School as research object. |
