There are twenty wells that are used to research which those are exploration wells of PT Pertamina EP. Geochemical analysis was carried out on 642 rock samples which was validated to 104 rock samples to determine the quantity/richness, quality, and maturity of organic matter. Biomarker analysis of rock and oil samples was also carried out to determine the depositional environment and correlation between oil and source rock. There are two formations in this area which have the potential to become source rock, those are Matindok Formation and Tomori Formation. Matindok Formation has quantity in good to very good category, type II-III kerogen, with maturity level in immature-early mature category. Tomori Formation has quantity in fair to very good category, type I-III kerogen, with maturity level in immature-early mature category. Based on geochemical characteristic, the gas samples in this area consist of biogenic and thermogenic gases which derived from the marine environment. Based on biomarker analysis, the depositional environment of organic matter in Matindok Formation is interpreted derive from transition zone with high influence of land environment and dominated with higher plants. Meanwhile Tomori Formation is interpreted derive from transition zone with high influence of marine environment and dominated with algae or bacteria. Oil samples in this research have a genetic relationship and are interpreted to originate from one family. Correlation between oil and source rock shows that oil is positively correlated with source rock of Tomori Formation and negatively correlated with Matindok Formation. Biogenic gas samples are expected derived from Minahaki, Poh, and/or Celebes Molasse Formation, while Tomori and/or Matindok Formation has the potential as a source rock of thermogenic gas samples in the study. However, both of these things can’t be ascertained due to the limitation of research data. text
