INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/70516 Rare earth elements (REEs) are critical materials that needed for the development of various advanced and environmentally friendly technologies. Higher demand for REEs results in increased processing of rare earths minerals. Geological REE sample destruction was performed as preparation stage in order to separate the analytes from their constituent matrix. The most commonly used method for sample preparation was carried out by dissolving the sample with oxidizing acid. Furthermore, measurement of analyte levels of REEs was carried out with Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES). The development of analytical methods needs to include analytical performance parameters to determine the quality of measurement results. However, the method of preparation of rare earths samples that is routinely used in Centre of Mineral Coal and Geothermal Resources, Geological Agency is a non-standardized method. Therefore, this research has developed a sample preparation method using oxidizing acid for La, Ce, and Sm analysis of geological samples. Analytical performance parameters were tested using Certified Reference Materials (CRM). Obtained accuracy values is in the range of 94–108% and precision values in the form of %RSD is in the range of 1,5–12%. For the linearity of the three elements with chosen wavelength tested has fulfilled R2 > 0,997. The detection limits and quantification limits for La, Ce and Sm ranged from 0,25–0,5 ppm and 0,5–1,43 ppm. The developed method was used on geological sample analysis which also yielded good results. Accuracy values with spiked samples are obtained in the range of 84–107% and precision values in the form of %RSD range from 0,4–12%. Based on the analytical performance parameters, it was found that the elemental analysis method for La, Ce and Sm in this study showed good results so that the method could be used as a routine analytical methods. text
