UPWELLING STUDY IN MALUKU SEA 2015 - 2017

The waters of the Maluku Sea are known as one of the waters in the territory of Indonesia that has high fishery potential. However, the process of upwelling marine dynamics in the Maluku seas is still a guess. Because upwelling in the Maluku Sea is still a conjecture, further research is needed on t...

However, the process of upwelling marine dynamics in the Maluku seas is still a guess. Because upwelling in the Maluku Sea is still a conjecture, further research is needed on the phenomenon of upwelling marine dynamics in the Maluku Sea. The purpose of this study is to examine the upwelling phenomenon that occurred in the Maluku Sea from 2015 to 2017. The results of this study indicate that the upwelling episode in the 2015 El Nino conditions occurred during the East Season period June - September, and was maximum in August 2015 SST and chlorophyll at the peak of upwelling in August 2015 were 25.93 – 26.69 °C and 1.18 – 1.99 mg/m3 respectively. In the 2015 El Nino conditions there was moderate upwelling centered between the waters of Banggai and Taliabu and on the east coast of North Sulawesi. Under normal conditions, weak upwelling episodes between Banggai and Taliabu waters and on the east coast of North Sulawesi occur in the east monsoon and the maximum is in August with SST and chlorophyll values of 27.09 – 28.15 °C and 0.47 – 1.08 mg/m3. upwelling at the center of upwelling in the waters between the Banggai Islands and Taliabu Island Events by a large south monsoon wind, pushing surface air to the north causing near-surface winds that are similar to the direction of the wind because Coriolis disappears at the equator and upwelling events at that point the center of upwelling of the lower waters east of North Sulawesi caused by Ekman's transport to the right which is perpendicular to the surface in the Northern Hemisphere. In the period from 2015 to 2017, moderate upwelling in the Maluku Sea occurred in 2015 during ENSO conditions. Therefore, ENSO has a significant effect on upwelling fluctuations. text
