Summary: | Deli Tobacco Hospital is the first hospital in the city of Medan and has been declared a cultural heritage building that must be protected. However, since it stopped operating in 2011, the condition of this hospital has been increasingly neglected and has experienced a decline in physical and functional quality for more than a decade.
In order to anticipate the increasingly severe negative conditions caused by this quality degradation, it is considered necessary to revitalize the former Deli Tobacco Hospital complex to preserve existing historic buildings and comply with conservation principles through adaptive reuse approaches, new development (infill), and demolition to preserve and can meet new functional requirements. In identifying the potential for new functions of the design area based on the determination of protected components, design principles and criteria obtained from literature reviews and precedent studies. The creative economy sector is considered to be one of the promising economic sectors in the future, and can be accommodated in a new function of the design area as a Creative Hub so that it does not only preserve cultural heritage buildings to become an attractive area, but can also become a catalyst for social activities. a new culture and economy on the face of Medan City and realizing an urban regeneration.
