a city are related to the reality of the place, local history, and the traditions of the
community within. However, along with the times, there is a special phenomenon that
moves dynamically and influences people's lives, namely globalization. Therefore, to
maintain the existence of culture, it is necessary t o preserve it by involving community
participation in it. As for supporting community participation, social capital acts as a
facilitator of collective action between communities to achieve common goals. In the
context of cultural preservation, social capi tal is needed to support collective action
between communities to preserve culture. Tangerang City as one of the Jakarta
metropolitan areas has a cultural side in the historical development of the city. One of
the cultures that are the face of Tangerang Ci ty is the Chinese Benteng culture. The
Chinese Benteng community, especially those residing in Kampung Tehyan, are
currently still maintaining and preserving the culture and customs of their ancestors.
With some of the previous points, it is necessary to i dentify how the social capital of
the Kampung Tehyan community plays a role in cultural preservation. In identifying,
this was achieved through the identification of culture and forms of preservation
carried out by the community as well as the social capit al of the Kampung Tehyan
community in cultural preservation. Furthermore, the social capital components used
in this study include networks, trust, and norms. To achieve the aims and objectives of
the research, data collection was carried out through prima ry data using interviews
and observations as well as secondary data from several kinds of literature, planning
documents, and others. The approach in this study is a qualitative approach to see the
actual phenomena and conditions that exist in the study ar ea. The results of the study
show that 99% of the people of Kampung Tehyan still preserve their culture. Preserved
culture includes elements of religion and art. The forms of preservation carried out by
the people of Kampung Tehyan include carrying out pra yers and traditions when the
time comes, introducing the tehyan musical instruments, cokek sipatmo dance, and batik
to outsiders as well as producing and distributing traditional cakes. In the process of
cultural preservation, social capital plays a role i n it, especially in the network
component. The network in the Kampung Tehyan community is dominated by
cooperation with outsiders to introduce Benteng Chinese culture to the wider
community. The norm is in efforts to preserve the tehyan musical instrument. |
