This Study focuses on issues of residential mobility of the upper class in suburban areas. That particular group generally been regarded as it caused urban sprawl. This is mainly becaused the upper class has access to own land more than any other groups. This tendency is likely to be a general pattern in metropolitant areas. <br />

A case study was carried out in Bandung, in particular at Kecamatan Cidadap. This area was chosen purposively because several reasons. First Bandung was regarded as a metropolitant city which was being developed. Second whereas Kecamatan Cidadap was chosen becaused this area was regarded as the most attractive residential area to the upper class. Finally this particular area was interesting to be studied since there had been a policy from the local government to control the development of urban sprawl. <br />

This purpose of this study was to analyze selected factors associated with the residential mobility of the upper class and their characteristics. Data were analyzed in regard to external <br />

( i.e., physical aspects of the residential area, public <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
facilities and their distribution, law and other relevant regulation) and internal factors (i.e., factors which affected individuals ; decision to move or not ). It is expected that this study may contribute to a better understanding of the issues of urban sprawl and residential mobility of the upper class at particular. More over, it is also expected that this study will iluminate the dynamic of urban sprawl and therefore it may contribute to a better policy un urban planning especially on controling the process of urban sprawl. <br />
