Description
Summary:The huge amount of waste that has been generated and increased over time from the Bandung Metropolitan Area has overloaded Sarimukti landfill's to exceed its capacity. Landfill mining activities are one of the efforts to overcome this by excavating and processing waste that has been piled up for a long time to be used as material and energy, and also can make landfills for repeated use. The purpose of this study is to determine the composition, characteristics, and potential utilization of landfill mining waste from the Sarimukti landfill. The composition of the waste obtained consisted of 41.44% soil fraction, plastic (36.2%), textile (8.89%), wood (6.29%), rubber-leather (3.31%), glass-ceramic (2.03%), metals (1.4%), and others (0.45%) with a wide distribution of particle sizes from >38.1 mm to <2 mm. Combustible waste has the characteristics of 50.85% of water content, volatile content reaching 82.25 – 86.55%, ash content reaching 17.75 – 13.45%, 24.04% of carbon content, and the heating value of HHV is 5,592.31 kcal/kg with an LHV of 2,898.13 kcal/kg. Meanwhile, the soil fraction size <2 mm has a TOC of 44.55% and NTK of 1.51%. The potential utilization of Sarimukti landfill mining waste can be implemented through waste recycling of 82,961.78 tons, compost production of 693,023.79 tons, landfill cover material of 306,561.90 tons, and RDF production or waste treatment by incineration of combustible waste of 1,319,106.79 tons.
