MEANDERING AROUND: PERSONAL LANDSCAPE REPRESENTATION THROUGH DRAWING INSTALLATION

Growing up in the same place for several years has pushed the author to re- examine the meaning of their home. The author's identity and place of residence connect through inherent, specific, spatial experiences that always push back to the original place on a personal level. The author is interested in expressing this experience through a drawing that moves away from the conventional square shape by borrowing the visual configuration of cartography and the circular surface of a field as a metaphor for personal landscape. During the creative process, the author explores the technique of scratching with a black pen on the entire surface of the drawing. The work's final result shows that understanding one's home's meaning can represent a unique landscape intertwined with filling one's living space, growing, spreading, and being perpetual with the existence of space. The flow, material properties, and accumulation of pen lines can represent the limitless aspects of the mental state of a place, location, and organized image of the earth that spreads and creates space. The work manifests the author's experience interpreting life's journey to obtain peace and inviting the audience to reinterpret their place.
