Description
Summary:One of the interesting tourist destinations in Banyuwangi Regency is Grand Watudodol Beach. This beach is located in Bangsring Village, Wongsorejo District, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java. The beauty of the coast and the condition of the coral reefs on this beach are good so it is very suitable for beach recreation and snorkelling activities. This study aims to determine the potential for marine tourism, Carrying Capacity Area (DDK), and examine the risks at Grand Watudodol Beach. The data used are primary data from field observations and secondary data from various data sources. Data collection consisted of oceanographic biophysical data and parameters of suitability for beach recreation and snorkelling. In addition, this study uses tidal currents and wave height data to assess risk. The method used in this study is a descriptive method with the help of analysis of the Tourism Suitability Index (IKW), Carrying Capacity Area (DDK) and risk assessment from the analysis of tidal currents and wave heights. Based on the results obtained, the percentage for IKW beach recreation and snorkelling every season at study points 1 and 2 of Grand Watudodol Beach is between 60% - 100%, meaning that they are in the appropriate to very suitable category. Then, the risk study obtained is that tidal currents in each season have an average speed ranging from 0.21 m/s to 0.68 m/s (classified as swift), which means that it is highly recommended to swim and snorkel near the beach area. Grand Watudodol and the frequency of occurrence of wave heights with a value of 0 – 0.5 m (calm conditions) which has a small percentage (<50%) in August and October is vulnerable to unsafe swimming and snorkelling tours in those months. Then, the carrying capacity of the area obtained is 1380 people/day for snorkelling tours and 645 people/day for beach recreation tours.
