THE DESIGN OF IMPROVING PROCESS UNLOADING CRUDE PALM OIL USING THE LEAN MANUFACTURING CONCEPT APPROACH
PT Darmex Oil & Fats is a company that processes CPO (Crude Palm Oil) into RBDPO (Refined Bleached Deodorized Palm Oil) to be processed back into cooking oil and FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester). Since 2012, PT Darmex Oil & Fats stopped producing cooking oil to focus on the refinery process (p...

Since 2012, PT Darmex Oil & Fats stopped producing cooking oil to focus on the refinery process (processing CPO into RBDPO). However, in 2022 since the scarcity of cooking oil in Indonesia, the company has an agenda to return to producing cooking oil. To achieve the company's agenda, PT Darmex Oil & Fats determines the plan to improve the CPO unloading process. Currently, the CPO unloading process has yet to reach the target completion time due to the waste in the CPO unloading processes. A lean manufacturing concept approach is used to determine the proposed solution to the problem at PT Darmex Oil & Fats. Lean manufacturing is a fundamental concept that can be used to analyze waste. The CPO unloading process is a stable and repetitive activity with a low level of complexity, so the lean manufacturing concept is suitable for the CPO unloading process. The proposed improvements can be expected to eliminate or minimize waste to reduce the unloading process time. This research uses lean manufacturing tools, including PAM, Gang process chart, 5S, takt time, and visual management. Based on the tools used, improvement proposals were made in the form of optimizing the application of 5S, designing SOPs for handling CPO sediment, procuring hose tools, and improving the CPO unloading area. The results of the proposed improvement design are estimated to reduce non-value-added activities by 62%. With the elimination of waste in the CPO unloading process, the CPO unloading process can be completed faster, namely 19.7 minutes/truck with 62 trucks/day. text |
