EL NINO SOUTHERN OSCILLATION (ENSO) SIGNAL ANALYSIS AND THE CORELATION WITH INDONESIAN THROUGHFLOW VARIABILITY IN LIFAMATOLA PASSAGE

This final project is about ENSO corelation signal from current velocity data through Lifamatola Strait and SOI data. Lifamatola strait is one of Arlindo eastern route which has sill about 1940 m depth and special characteristic ITF watermass because it is placed between 1400-2000 m. The current vel...

Description
Summary:This final project is about ENSO corelation signal from current velocity data through Lifamatola Strait and SOI data. Lifamatola strait is one of Arlindo eastern route which has sill about 1940 m depth and special characteristic ITF watermass because it is placed between 1400-2000 m. The current velocity data has taken from deployment INSTANT mooring in 2004-2006 with SOI from http://www.longpaddock.gov. This analysis using low pass filter, spectral analysis, and cross corelation with MATLAB 7.0. Current velocity data and SOI was processed of east-west and north-south velocity. The dominant period of ENSO in Lifamatola passage as a result from spectral analysis which shown 12 and 24 hours for tidal period which means the diurnal tidal in Lifamatola Passage and 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 6 months as non-tidal dominant while the ENSO period couldn't known because of the length data is not sufficient (only 3 years). Current velocity data in Lifamatola Passage shows that ITF in 1400-2000 m depth with the dominant direction to southeast, it is approriate with Lifamatola sill geometry and corelated between (r) = 0.275 s.d 0.8504 for 6 months filter, lag time 1-11 months. From processing the data which has been done, there was any correlation between ITF and ENSO phenomenon in entire depth.
