Description
Summary:External injuries often occur in the skin causing damage to the skin epithelium or disruption of the normal anatomical structural integrity of the tissue due to trauma. One type of wound that often occurs in Indonesia is due to cesarean section delivery, with a maximum percentage of around 10 to 15%. Cesarean delivery increases the risk infection by five times compared to normal delivery, so it requires modern wound dressings. The modern wound dressings designed in this study are hydrogel from chitosan, alginate and glycerol with the addition of coffee nano active substance. Hydrogel is a polymer network with cross-links so that it has hydrophilic properties, is not water soluble but can absorb exudate, keeps the skin surface moist and prevents the skin from bacteria. Robusta green coffee beans were processed using a planetary ball mill with time variations of 2,4,6,8 and 10 hours. The results of particle size analyzer measurements and SEM characterization, coffee obtained from milling for 8 hours reaches a size of ~ 200 - 250 nm. The addition of 10% nano-coffee as an active compound in the hydrogel which has the inhibition power of Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) which cause diseases in human skin is done in vitro. The results of the contact angle test showed that the hydrogel with the addition of nano coffee had hydrophilic properties with a measured angle of 31.60. It can be concluded that the Chitosan-Alginate-Glycerol hydrogel with nano coffee has the potential to be used as an antibacterial wound cover for wound healing after sectio caesarea surgery.
