Description
Summary:Abstract:

Construction project comprises of activities with high risk of injuries. A research was conducted to study the characteristic of accidents pertinent to the construction industry. More than 1000 injuries were analyzed according to type of injuries, sources of accident, part of injured body, unsafe actions and working conditions, as well as the direct cost of accidents. The indirect cost of accident was obtained by means of questionnaires to participating contractors. The research classifies type of accident dominance to construction injuries, parts of body mostly injured, the dominant sources of accident, unsafe actions and unsafe working conditions in construction projects in several cities in Indonesia. The cost analysis shows that the ratios of indirect to direct cost per injury, per person are 0.665 and 0.918 for death (fatal accident) and permanent injury, respectively. These ratios are considerably low compared to results from research in other country.
